Guest methods talks — free, on the group's own workflow

Stages this page moves: → 1 (qualified workflows from the audience) and → 2 (frames offered after the talk). Buyer pages: methods supplement, reproducibility bundle, the teaching module (for a graduate-course or training slot instead of a lab meeting), and the segment page for the group (holography labs or biomedical QPI).

We offer a free 30–40 minute methods talk to a university group's lab meeting or reading group. It is about their workflow — their geometry, their papers, their methods section — not a generic deck. No fee, no travel request, no sponsorship; online unless they are local.

Who to pitch

Groups on the design-partner list or in the prospect log that publish holography, DHM/QPI, interferometry or optical-computing work and have a regular lab meeting or journal club. Two pitches a week; one owner per group.

Prep (2–3 hours, before you pitch)

  1. Read the group's two most recent papers that use holograms. Write down, from the methods section: geometry, wavelength, pitch, distance, how the reconstruction was done (own code? which method?), and what the paper says about how someone could reproduce it.
  2. Run their stated setup through the workflow-fit check (page 24) and save the response.
  3. If they published a public dataset, run one of their frames through the service and keep the result ZIP (result ID, evidence record, methods supplement). If not, use our public sample and say so.
  4. Draft the "methods sentence" their paper could have carried, from the methods supplement in the ZIP.

Artifact: a one-page prep note (papers, parameters, fit verdict, result ID) in the log row.

The pitch (plain text, to the PI or the lab-meeting organiser)

Subject: Offer: a 30-min methods session for your lab meeting on <topic>

Dear <Name>,

I read <paper title, year> — in particular how the <geometry> holograms were
reconstructed for <their result>. We run a hosted reconstruction service that
returns, for each frame and settings, a result ID and an evidence record anyone
can recompute, plus a ready-to-adapt methods paragraph.

Would a free 30-minute session at one of your lab meetings be useful? It would
use your own published setup (<wavelength>, <pitch>, <geometry>): how a frame
plus settings becomes a result ID, how that turns into a methods citation, and
where our approach does NOT fit your work. No cost, online, no follow-up
obligation.

Run of show (30–40 minutes)

Min Segment What you show
0–3 Why we are here their paper's methods paragraph on screen; "how would someone else get your exact numbers?"
3–12 Frame + settings → result ID one frame (theirs if public, else our sample) through the service; open the ZIP: evidence record, input/config hashes, result ID
12–20 Result ID → methods citation the methods supplement; how a student pastes and edits it
20–25 Where it does not fit needs_review/unsupported cases from the fit checker; our reconstruction is a baseline, not a claim to beat their method
25–40 Their questions collect setups on a sheet: name, geometry, wavelength, pitch, format

Claims rule applies on every slide (page 00): no agreement figures, no speed numbers, no accuracy promises; biomedical = research tooling only.

Follow-up (within 24 hours)

  1. Thank-you email to the host with the result ZIP from the session and the methods supplement page.
  2. For every attendee who left a setup: run the fit check, send the verdict, ask for one frame (stage 1 → 2).
  3. If the host teaches a graduate lab course, offer the teaching module.
  4. Invite everyone to the next monthly clinic (page 26).

Artifact: the talk date in the log; one row per attendee setup with a saved fit response.
